Management and Human Resources

The Management and Human Resources specialization offers training in Organizational Behavior and Theory.
Zhu "Cynthia" Feng
You'll engage with renowned scholars, collaborate with diverse peers, and have the autonomy to pursue your own research interests, tackling the complex challenges facing individuals and organizations in an ever-evolving global landscape
PHD Student

The Management and Human Resources specialization offers training in Organizational Behavior, Human Resources Management, and Organization Theory. MHR-specialized PhD students address a variety of questions at the frontier of academic research on the management of organizations and careers, combining rigor and relevance.

What sets a Ph.D. in Management and Human Resources (MHR) at HEC Paris apart:

1. Mentorship Throughout Your Doctoral Journey

At HEC Paris, we recognize the pivotal role of mentorship in shaping successful doctoral studies. Our MHR PhD specialization is highly selective. If you become part of our program, it is because a mentor (or a team of mentors) has identified your potential. These mentors will be your guiding light, accompanying you from start to finish – all the way to the academic job market.

Our faculty members cover a diverse range of research fields, including Organizational Behavior (OB), Human Resources (HR), and Organizational Theory (OT). From micro to macro perspectives, their expertise ensures a rich and comprehensive learning experience.

2. Collaborative Opportunities

PhD candidates at HEC Paris are not merely considered as research assistants but rather as junior colleagues. Our culture fosters collaboration.  We regard doctoral students as valuable members of the MHR department. As you embark on your journey, doors will open for collaborative research projects with faculty. Working alongside seasoned scholars – as peers, not just assistants – will hone your research skills to the highest level.

3. A Close-Knit Community of PhD Students

Our collaborative ethos extends to the PhD student community. At HEC Paris, you will engage with a diverse group of fellow scholars. This tightly-knit network provides support, intellectual exchange, and a sense of belonging. Together, we create an environment where ideas flourish and academic growth thrives.

In essence, HEC Paris not only offers academic excellence but also a nurturing environment where mentorship, collaboration, and community converge. Your PhD journey here promises to be intellectually stimulating, professionally rewarding, and uniquely fulfilling.

Students may join courses from other specializations or partner universities to broaden their knowledge.

Research Seminars

Most academic departments organize research seminars on a regular basis as well as many other academic events. Students are encouraged to join these seminars already from the first year of studies. They give students a good idea of what they are expected to produce. They are also a good way to socialize with the professors of the departments and the other PhD students. Most of these research seminars are available to all PhD students from all specializations.
